Why don’t you see African American game show hosts? I am currently racking with the blantant truth. Yeah it may not be that important or affect society as a whole, but when you think of the staying power this type of exposure incures (i.e. Bob Barker) it seems rather insulting. Throughout my 21-year life in front of the tv, I can only conjure two actual black game show hosts.
- Wayne Brady – Don’t Forget the Lyrics: Fox’s copycat of ABC’s better Singnig Bee put the likable Brady back on TV. And when I say likable I mean black enough to be allowed in the households of millions during prime time.
- The second was harder to find since I had to backtrack to the late 80s early 90s for Nickelodeon’s Arcade.
Two in 21 years. And game shows were reality TV long before seven strangers lived in a house with their lives taped. Perhaps I’m making a mountain from a mole hill; but, you would think with the progression of all races in entertainment and art, this simple spot would be covered. I mean we’ve landed the White House but missed Wheel of Fortune? Perpelxing? Then again, there aren’t many female hosts either. Only two come to mind, but that is another post.
